Our Story

GLEAF is a second-generation brand, born from the lifelong dedication of our parents, who devoted themselves to traditional Korean hanbok and the art of traditional gold leaf stamping in a small corner of Jongro-gu.For over 40 years, they have meticulously crafted hanbok, gold-stamped designs, wedding attire, and mourning garments for esteemed clients, including the Blue House, Samsung Company, and Hyundai Company. Inheriting their unwavering commitment to tradition, we have seamlessly blended this heritage with contemporary design.Today, GLEAF stands as the only modern design brand that incorporates Korea’s rare and cherished traditional geumbak(gold leaf stamping) technique, a craft now practiced by fewer than ten artisans in the country.GLEAF is a brand that seamlessly blends traditional colors, patterns, and gold leaf artistry with a contemporary touch. We exclusively use the traditional Geumbak (gold leaf stamping) technique, which has been practiced since the Joseon Dynasty. Our unique design concept combines a modern interpretation of the Obangsaek (Korean five-color palette) with GLEAF’s signature stripe pattern, enhanced by traditional Geumbak (gold leaf stamping) that symbolizes gilsang (auspicious blessings). This fusion of elegant Eastern aesthetics and distinctive uniqueness has garnered significant attention, particularly in international markets. Unlike mass-produced traditional products that rely on silkscreen or transfer printing, GLEAF maintains exceptional craftsmanship and quality, positioning itself as a premium brand that does not engage in low-cost competition. Moving forward, GLEAF remains committed to quality-focused, high-end strategies, ensuring that tradition is preserved and elevated through exceptional design and craftsmanship.GLEAF prioritizes the happiness of its recipients above all else. Unlike some brands that use traditional patterns merely for aesthetic appeal, we remain committed to authentic craftsmanship, ensuring that the gilsang (auspicious blessings) left by our ancestors are faithfully conveyed to our customers. Each pattern is carefully researched and meticulously reproduced to preserve its original meaning and significance. GLEAF actively collaborates with traditional hanbok artisans. As the hanbok industry continues to shrink, many skilled artisans face difficulties in sustaining their craft. To support them, we source 100% of our materials and fabrics domestically, ensuring stable work opportunities for these artisans. Additionally, a portion of our revenue is donated to support the traditional clothing artisans in Jongno 5-ga. GLEAF is dedicated to sustainability by upcycling leftover hanbok fabric, promoting environmental protection and the circular use of resources. We purchase discarded fabric scraps from hanbok production and repurpose them into various products, such as daenggi keyrings, giving new life to traditional materials.
